Trained as a dentist and physiotherapist, my interest in aesthetics first evolved from a dislike of getting and looking older. The person gazing back at me in the mirror looked tired and stressed (more about that later!) and aesthetics was starting to evolve as a credible career option for medical professionals.
Unlike dentistry, the field of aesthetics in the UK is largely unregulated and essentially, many unqualified people can and do, carry out treatments without formal training leading to the industry having an incredibly bad reputation. This galvanised me to study for and qualify with a level 7 in medical injectables (postgraduate master’s level qualification) from Harley academy in 2019- one of the first professionals to undertake the training in the UK. I have also recently completed their cosmetic dermatology training.
At about the same time, I began to struggle with the stress of running my own dental practice and discovered that yoga helped me manage my anxiety. I had been considering training as a pilates teacher as my first career had been as a physiotherapist but quickly switched to yoga and began training with the British Wheel, which offers the level 4 accreditation ; the highest level of training in the UK.
I am now a fully qualified BWY yoga teacher and have additional training and accreditation in the teaching of the research-based “Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs” course. This followed a work related back injury and has been instrumental in recovery.
Although at first glance, the two may not be an obvious fit, I think they marry up, well; yoga makes me feel fit in body and mind, whilst aesthetics helps me look and feel my best.
